Validation of the model (e.g. Carruthers et al.1) shows that FLOWSTAR models the flow well typically for slopes up to 1 in 2 (upwind slopes and hill summits) and up to 1 in 3 locally in hill wakes. Spatial scales treated by the model range from tens of metres up to several kilometres.
