Wind energy

The CERC model FLOWSTAR is designed to calculate the impact of complex terrain on mean airflow and turbulence at very high resolution, taking into account changes in both surface elevation and surface roughness.

CERC uses the model for a variety of applications, including:

• wind field predictions for wind farm assessments;
• wind engineering problems, such as the calculation of mean flow and turbulence along the length of a planned bridge; and
• forecasting the likelihood of exposure to destructive winds.
